Dear Sir/Madam,

I am writing to you with regards to the latest game-fixing scandal in the Turkish Football League. As you may have heard there has been a courtcase initiated and in that respect there are at present 61 arrests including football club presidents. I am writing to you to inform you on the growing concerns of a common football admirer.
My name is .......; I am .... years old and I work as a..................... I am a deep fan of Trabzonspor since I was born! For years I have been attending to both home and away games and supporting the team by any means possible. I love Trabzonspor and it is an important part of my life.
Even though Trabzonspor won the title for 6 times in its 44 years history; we could not become the champion for the last 27 years and I cannot care less. After all, I have an unconditional commitment to my team. Over the last 27 years Trabzonspor has been runner-up for 5 times and never won the title. In three of those seasons Fenerbahçe won the championship. I should mention at that stage that Trabzon is a city with a population of 300.000 and accordingly very small in size, budget and lobby compared to Istanbul (population 15 million) giants Fenerbahçe, Galatasaray and Beşiktaş.
There has always been rumours about game-fixing in the Turkish Football League , but it has never been as obvious and ugly as this year. As always the Turkish Football Federation turned their back to those rumours. Fenerbahçe, the “so-called” champion of this year, could save 33 points at the end of first half of the league (win:10, draw:3, loss:4) where as they accumulated an amazing 49 points at the second half ( win:16, draw:1, loss:0). By this “unprecedented success” the won the title by goal difference passing Trabzonspor which has 82 points as well. It also deserves mention that Trabzonspor won 42 points at the first half and 40 points in the second half. So it was another lost year on our side. We watched the fans of Fenerbahçe celebrating in their cars and rubbing on our faces.
However it turns out that the judicial system was not as ignorant as the Turkish Football Federation and district attorneys started a case sua sponte in December 2011. Within that respect the police secretly monitored phone calls of many high ranking individuals and officials for almost 6 months and followed those people. On July 3, 2011 Turkey woke up to a rather uneasy Sunday with tens of arrests on game-fixing scandal. Aziz Yıldırım, the president of Fenerbahçe, allegedly the man at the epicenter of all those illegal actions, as well as many other presidents, coaches, managers, players were arrested and are still in custody. There are strong evidences that in 19 games there was money exchange and game fixing attempts. I am not going to go into details about the scandal since it is not the aim of this letter.
The purpose of this letter is to draw your attention to the stand point of Turkish Football Federation. TFF over its history has never taken steps to investigate game-fixing rumours and they have always been protective of the Istanbul giants. Whoever the president of the TFF is they never said a word. So lets sum up very briefly how TFF responded to the scandal. The president, Mehmet Ali Aydınlar, said they learned the incidents and arrests from the TVs just like any regular person in Turkey. (These are the exact words of the president of TFF). Mr Aydınlar, who previously occupied important managerial positions in Fenerbahçe, said TFF can’t take steps because they do not have the official documents. By then people started to hear about the phone-calls between presidents, money exchange photos, meetings with coaches etc. from the newspapers. Then the court agreed to send the TFF the documents as big as 26 files with 15000 documents. Mr Aydınlar said the Ethics Commission will review the documents and advise a solution to TFF before the league starts. After all the TFF could reach a verdict without necessarily waiting for the court result. They are authorized to do so by law. The UEFA authorizes that as well. To my knowledge even at the case of suspicion UEFA encourages to take the necessary steps. So TFF cancelled the start of the league from August 5 to September 9 to have time to review the documents and reach a verdict.
They announced their verdict on August 15. And we realized nothing has changed with regards to the TFF. The TFF “decided” that the leaugue should start as is and no steps should be taken as of now. Simple as that. There is no relegation, no punishments, nothing whatsoever. So those records , documents do not mean anything to the TFF. It is not a big surprise to us as Turkish people. They are doing what they are best at; protecting the Istanbul Giants. To understand how rotten things are just look at how the stock prices of Fenerbahçe increased a day before the verdict has been officially announced. 20% in one day!!!
The more I try to keep my letter short the longer it becomes. As a common football fan I was more than optimistic when I heard about the arrests. However I am disillusioned, pessimistic and unhappy with the last moves of TFF and I am losing my hope that anything will change in Turkey and the TFF will do anything. I think we deserve a “FAIR GAME” in Turkey just like anywhere in Europe.

Size bu mektubu yazmamın nedeni Türkiye Futbol Ligi’ndeki şike skandalıdır. Malumunuz üzere halihazırda açılmış bir dava ve bu dava kapsamında tutuklu 61 kişi bulunmaktadır. Sıradan bir futbol seyircisi olarak artan endişelerimi dile getirmek için bu mektubu yazıyorum.
Adım.....; ... yaşındayım ve ..... olarak çalışmaktayım. Doğduğumdan beri Trabzonspor taraftarıyım. Yıllardan beri içsaha ve deplasman maçlarına giderim, ve mümkün olan her yolla takımımı desteklerim. Trabzonspor’u çok seviyorum ve Trabzonspor hayatımın önemli bir parçası.
44 yıllık tarihinde 6 defa şampiyon olmasına rağmen Trabzonspor son 27 senedir şampiyon olamıyor. Aslında çok da umursamıyorum çünkü takımıma koşulsuz bir sevgi duymaktayım. Bu 27 yıllık sürede Trabzonspor 5 kere 2. olmasına rağmen hiç şampiyon olamadı! Bu sezonların üçünde Fenerbahçe şampiyon oldu. Belirtmeden geçemeyeğim Trabzon 300.000 nüfuslu bir şehirdir ve 15 Milyon nüfuslu İstanbul’un 3 büyük takımına Fenerbahçe, Galatasaray ve Beşiktaş) göre nispeten oldukça küçük bütçe, boyut ve lobi sahibidir.
Türkiye Futbol Ligi ile hep şike iddiaları olagelmiştir, ancak hiçbiri bu yıl olduğu kadar açık ve çirkin hale gelmemişti. Türkiye Futbol Federasyonu her zaman olduğu gibi bu yıl da bu iddialara sırtını dönmüştür. Bu sezonun “sözde” şampiyonu Fenerbahçe ilk yarı (10 galibiyet; 3 beraberlik;4 mağlubiyet) alarak 33 puan toplamışken, ikinci yarı “eşi görülmemiş bir başarı” yakalayarak (16 galibiyet ; 1 beraberlik) ile 49 puan toplamış; aynı puana sahip 82 puanlı Trabzonspor’u averajla geçerek şampiyon olmuştur. Belirtmekte fayda var Trabzonspor ilk yarı 42 ikinci yarı 40 puan toplamıştır. Bizim açımızdan kayıp başka bir oldu bu yıl da. Fenerbahçe taraftarının arabalarda kutlamalarını yüzümüze vurmalarını sabırla izledik.
Ancak anlaşıldı ki Türk hukuk sistemi TFF kadar kör değildi ve savcılar Aralık 2011’de re’sen bir soruşturma başlatmıştı. Bu bağlamda polis 6 ay boyunca ileri gelen kişiler ve yetkililer hakkında telefon dinlemesi ve fiziki takip gerçekleştirmişti. Sonuçta 3 Temmuz 2011 sabahı Türkiye şike ile ilgili onlarca tutuklamanın olduğu görece hareketli bir Pazar sabahına uyandı. Bütün yasadışı eylemlerin ortasındaki kişi olduğu ileri sürülen Aziz Yıldırım da dahil olmak üzere pek çok başkan, teknik direktör ve spor adamı tutuklandı ve hala gözaltında. 19 maçta şike ve teşvik yapıldığına dair ciddi kanıtlar olduğu iddia ediliyor. Bu mektubun amacı farklı olduğundan detaylara girmeyeceğim.
Bu mektubun yazılmasındaki amaç TFF’nin duruşunun ortaya konulmasıdır. TFF tarihi boyunca asla şike iddialarını ciddiye almamış ve İstanbul büyüklerini destekler bir tavır sergilemiştir. TFF Başkanı kim olursa olsun tavrı hiç değişmemiştir. Şike skandalına TFF’nin nasıl karşılık verdiği şöyle bir özetleyelim;Başkan Mehmet Ali Aydınlar şike skandalını ve tutuklamaları diğer herkes gibi TV’lerden öğrendiğini ifade etti (kendisinin sözleridir). Önceleri Fenerbahçe Spor Kulübü’nde önemli yönetim görevleri de almış olan Sayın Aydınlar ellerinde belge olmadığından karar veremeyeceklerini ifade etmiştir. O dönemde kamuoyu gazeteler kanalı ile dinlemeler, para transferi görüntülerini öğrenmeye başlamıştı. Savcılar/mahkeme 26 klasör ve 15000 belgeden oluşan dosyaları TFF’ye göndermeyi kabul etti. Sayın Aydınlar da ligler başlamadan evvel karar verebilmek için dosyaların Etik Kurulu’na gönderileceğini onların tavsiye kararına göre bir karar vereceklerini beyan etti.Nihayetinde TFF’nin bir karara varması için mahkeme sonucunu beklemesi gerekmiyordu. Bunun için yetkileri vardı. Bilgim kadarı ile UEFA da şüphe bile olsa şike hakkında gereken adımların atılması konusunda federasyonları teşvik ediyordu. Bu gerekçe ile 5 Ağustos’ta başlaması planlanan ligler 9 Eylül’e ertelendi.
15 Ağustos’ta karar açıklandı. Ligin olduğu hali ile başlamasına ve an itibariyle hiçbir ceza verilmemesine “karar verdiler”...Bu kadar basit. Küme düşme yok, ceza yok, hiçbirşey olmadı. Yani bu kadar belge, kayıt TFF’ye birşey ifade etmiyormuş. Aslında biz Türkler için bu çok da şaşırtıcı olmadı. Zira TFF en iyi bildiği şeyi yapıyordu; İstanbul büyüklerini kollamak. İşlerin en kadar çürümüş olduğunu anlamak için sadece Fenerbahçe hisselerinin kararın açıklanmasında bir gün önce ne kadar arttığına bakınız. 1 günde %20 artış!
Mektubu kısaltmaya çalıştıkça uzuyor. Sıradan bir futbolsever olarak gözaltılarını duyduğumda çok umutlanmıştım. Ancak TFF’nin kararlarını duyduğumda hayal kırıklığına uğradım, karamsarlığa kapıldım ve mutsuz oldum; birşeylerin değişeceğine olan inancımı kaybettim. Öyle inanıyorum ki biz de Türkiye’de Avrupa’nın herhangi bir yerindeki kadar ADİL BİR OYUN’u hakediyoruz
