After the success of the revamped UEFA Intertoto Cup last summer, the
countdown to the 2007 edition has begun with the confirmation of the
format.
Fifty entries
The competition still consists of three two-legged rounds, with the
eleven winners in the final stage progressing to the UEFA Cup second
qualifying round. Of the 50 nations eligible to enter one club each, 28
will begin the first round on 23/24 June and 30 June/1 July, including a
team from Montenegro who will open that countrys account in UEFA club
competition. In the next round, held over the following two weekends, 14
more teams will enter. Clubs from Spain, Italy, England, France,
Germany, Portugal, the Netherlands and Greece will then take part in the
final stage on 21/22 July and 28/29 July to meet the 14 surviving sides.
The draw for all rounds will be announced on 23 April.
