Standart Doğan back as Trabzonspor coach

    Thursday, 7 September 2006

Ziya Doğan has been reappointed as coach of Trabzonspor after Brazilian Sebastião Lazaroni left the Turkish UEFA Cup contenders by mutual consent.

    Previous spells
During a previous two-season spell in charge between 2003 and 2005, Doğan enjoyed success in 2004 by winning the Turkish Cup and overseeing a second-place league finish. He has been at Gençlerbirliği SK and Malatyaspor since leaving the Black Sea club. Trabzonspor made a poor start to their Super League campaign under Lazaroni, tallying four points from four games to cause dissent among supporters who have waited 22 years for a seventh Turkish title.

    Weak start
Trabzonspor, eleventh in the league ahead of Sunday's game against Beşiktaş JK, are back in UEFA Cup action a week today as they entertain Spanish contenders CA Osasuna in the home leg of their first-round tie. The match will be played behind closed doors as a punishment for crowd trouble against APOEL FC in the previous round.

16:42 07Sep2006 RTRS-Soccer-Dogan returns to Trabzonspor after Lazaroni sacked

ISTANBUL, Sept 7 (Reuters) - Trabzonspor have sacked Brazilian Sebastiao Lazaroni and reached a deal to reappoint Ziya Dogan as coach, the Turkish club said on Thursday.
"Our decision has been communicated to Mr Lazaroni today," Trabzonspor chairman Nuri Albayrak said in a statement on the club's Web site.
"We have reached an agreement after talks with Ziya Dogan, who worked with us in the recent past. He is coming to complete his half-finished work.
"Ziya Dogan is a technical director who knows our character and our team structure. He is loved and supported by the fans," Albayrak said.
Dogan's previous two-season spell at Trabzonspor ended in 2004.
He takes over a club which is generally overshadowed by the big three Istanbul sides and is 11th in the Turkish first division with four points from four matches.
Former Brazil coach Lazaroni took over at Trabzonspor three months ago on a three-year deal.
Trabzon have been ordered to play their UEFA Cup first round, first leg match at home to Osasuna on Sept. 14 behind closed doors following incidents during their 1-0 win over Cypriot side APOEL FC in a qualifying round.
Four away fans were injured as a result of objects thrown by Trabzon supporters at that match.

In spite of the fact that those who know Z.D say it is a good choice for us, I am still doubtful if we should have gone to one who had made us a 'step' to reach BJK and then failed. Hope everything with us is to be good, with or without ZD or anyone else...

A spectacular start from Ziya Doğan
Although he had only three trainings together with the team, he achieved to get a very important victory against one of the strongest team in Turkish Super League. This victory will make Trabzonspor play more confident from now on.

Thanks to Mr.Doğan that he has brought up lots of hopes in our hearts.

Everything will be better with Ziya Doğan.
