Hi Folks

Well as already posted the Drogs won 1:0 against UCD last night. A goal from Aidan O'Keeffe, who came on as a sub scored the winner in the 93rd min. It was a fair result. The first half we as about shaded it with a few chances, but the second half was much better. One particular lineman was very wrong on three different occasions, one were he disallowed a good goal!!!!!

Anyway, We got the goal and brought home 3pts on the board.

BUT the even better news was heard on the way home when Waterford bet St. Pat's 2:1. This means that the Drogs are top of the league, by a point, but now also have a game in hand.

The main thing is to push on and but a gap between ourselves and the rest of the chasing pack.

Best of luck in your Intertoto Cup game on Sunday against KS Vllaznia.

Hi All

Congrat's on Trabzonspor's win tonight. 6:0. A bit of a training session!:alkış:

Good to see that my name-sake scored twice.

Hopefully you can now make it through to the UEFA Cup and if The Drogs play well and have luck on their side, our paths may cross ;).

Well done again guys.

Hi Folks

Just a quick note, just to let you know that The Drogs are playing Bohs, at home tonight.
Should be a good game as both teams are league contenders. Unfortunately the game is not being televised, so I have not got a link!
This will be the 3rd time we play them this season. 1st 0:0 draw away, the 1st game of the season then Bohs knocked us out of the FAI Cup 3 weeks ago, when both teams play very poorly.
Since then the Drogs performances have really transformed. It's a big game as if the Drogs win we will be 7 pts ahead of Bohs with a game in hand, but if we lose they will be 1pt behind, although, we would still have a game less played. A draw would suit the rest of the chasing teams.
So hopefully we can continue the good form and take 3pts. It would be a great boost to win and be on top of the league going to San Marino, midweek, to play in the UEFA Cup.

Hopefully the weather will improve, as the forecast is for heavy rain, which started at 10am!

C'mon the Claret & Blue

Hopefully The Drogs will win the match and make the score between Bohs is 7 points. But it seems tough match. Also the weather is an important factor ,when it rains the ground will be heavy. Our match is going to play tomorrow at 21:00.You know that first match finished 6/0 so we hope second match will be easy for us....

After winning 6-0 I'm sure it'll be a walk in the park for your guys tomorrow! Good Luck!

Tonight we beat Bohs 1-0. We didn't play that well, but neither did they. It was a tough match with a lot of hard tackles.

Ex-Bohs player Tony Grant scored with a header in the 90th minute! :D

Hi Folks

First of all I was saddened when I was monitoring the live scoreboard and saw the Trbaz were beaten by a 90min penalty yesterday. I was looking forward to the possibility of been drawn against you in the 2nd Round of the UEFA Cup. It would of been a real Claret & Blue party! I heard that the weather conditions were really hard, very hot!:(

Since the last time I was on, the Drogs traveled to San Marino to play SP Libertas. What a trip! The large majority of Drog Fans that traveled stayed in Rimini (Italy). As a result I made contact with the owner of the Bounty Bar and arranged, a fixed price on drinks, earlier opening times and coaches to and from the game. As you probably know the weather in the Mediterranean is amazing at the moment 38 to 40 degrees.

The link below has a few pics form the trip.
http://s183.photobucket.com/albums/x204/EuroDrogs07/

Anyway, the most disappointing part of the trip was the game:mad:. Our right back, Brian Shelly was the only player that had 100% adapted to the very hot conditions. He has been our player of the season so far, closely followed by Shane Robinson.

We started of well, passing the ball and making Libertas work hard chasing us down. We should of had two penalties, one of which was allowed to play on with an advantage???????

We also had a perfectly good goal disallowed for offside, when clearly the player was on side. We took the justified lead, but as the game wore on the conditions took its toll on our players. The first time Libertas crossed the midway line they score! A slip from of our guys in the middle of the park, allowed their forward claim the football and busted forward and passed our left back to easily, which left him one-on-one with the keeper and needless to say, he didn't miss .

Thats how it finished 1:1. We play them in the 2nd leg of the tie this Thursday in Dalymount Park in Dublin, as United Park does not meet UEFA Cup regulations i.e not enough seating around the ground (Mostly terrace standing). The only good thing from the result, is that a 0:0 draw will but us into the next round, so they will have to attack. I can see us winning by at least 4 goals, as the our players like playing on the wide pitch in Dalymount park. Fingers crossed.

Back to the league, and the better news there is that following the results from Friday night the Drogs are now 3pts clear at the top with a game less played. Some of the main contenders, Shamrock Rovers and Bohs both were beaten and St. Pats and Cork drew with each other 1:1. The Drogs played Waterford and won 3:0. They have to be the worst team to play in United park for a long time, although, they did have a number of players suspended!

So, roll on Thursday night and hopefully another Euro win for the Drogs and a passage into the second round draw on Friday morning! We better not celebrate to much as I have to be up to watch the draw and start booking flights!

Here's hoping.........

C'mon the Claret & Blue

Hi Folks

It's been a while since I've been on. Things are looking good at the moment for the Drogs, but there is a long way to.

We are currently sitting on the top of the pile, 5pts clear and with one less game played. As shown in the table above.

We play St. Pats tonight in United Park. BIG Match. If we win, we will open up a 8pts gap, but a draw wouldn't be a disaster. But we all want 3pts....fingers crossed.

Here's the link for the streaming of the game, if anyone is interested.

http://www.tg4.ie/Bearla/Webt/webt.htm

Just click on the web tv button. Kick-off is 19:45hrs (Local time). Just remember TG4 is the Irish speaking channel, so the commentary will be in Irish, but the interviews before & after will be in English. Hopefully it is good viewing and good result for the Drogs ....of course...3pts .....PLEASE!

We recently beat Bray last Monday. A 91st minute goal from Shane Robinson clinched the 3pts. Poor 1st half, but a lot better 2nd half and it showed good character coming from a goal down....A sign of champions???????

Last Thursday, we but the disappointment of a 1:1 draw in San Marino behind us, as we came out 3:0 winners in the 2nd leg of our qualify in the UEFA Cup, against Libertas in Dalymount Park (Dublin....our nominated home for European Competitions). It was a comfortable game in the end, which saw us being entered into the pot for the 2nd Qualifying round, where we were drawn against Helsingborg (Sweden).

It will be a tough tie, but we will be up for it. Our Manager Paul Doolin was in Sweden, during the week watching Helsingborg play a 1:1 draw with Malmo FF, doing a bit of homework.

On a different note.

Guys....stop sweating....the wait is nearly over.......

I see that Trabz are playing Sivasspor on Sunday.

Best of luck in the game and hopefully you will have a better start to this season, compared with last season.......Claret & Blue for the Title.

Ya, I was just wondering about that, as I was monitoring the score on a live scoreboard and it came up abandoned after 90mins ???????
However, it was up as a result on UEFA.com.
Did the result stand, or will there be a replay?

Can't stay long but:

As you know we drew 1-1 with Helsingborg in the UEFA Cup, fair result, they were better in the first half, we were better in the second, although I think we had the most clear-cut chances. I think we have every chance of progressing.

On Monday we played Galway Utd. in the league at home. They had a man sent off in the first half and we dominated from then on and went 2 up. But two cock ups from our keeper in the last three minutes gave them the draw.

This Friday we play Bohemians away, again. The match will be live on tv, and it can be watched online @ www.tg4.ie , just click 'Home' and then WebTv at the top tomorrow night, kick off is 7:45 local time.

Unfourtanetly we only drew 1-1.

And we were very lucky. Bohs were far better than us on the night. Very, very entertaining second half. Our keeper saved a peno.

Hi All

Well the EuroDrog Trip for 2007 has come to an end, with a big bang. Beaten 3:0 in Sweden. We seemed nervous and didn't perform and the managers subsituations were very strange.
But anyway, it was a great trip and we all home safely.

Our League form has dipped in recent weeks, but we are still 7pts clear at the top of the table and equal games played.

It has been a frustrating couple of weeks.

We threw away 2pts when we played Galway at home. We were 2:0 up with 4mins to play. Then a mistake by our Keeper (and maybe a doggy call be the Ref) lead to Galway's 1st goal and just on the stroke of full time a pass was played into the box and Dan (the Keeper) misjudged the flight of the ball and punched it into his own net . The most frustrating thing was that is was a great team performance, everyone played great, up until the goals!!!

We were also lucky to get away with a 1pt when we played Bohs away.

On Monday night saw the rearranged UCD game played. It was probably the worst performance this season!.

UCD won the game 1:0 (a deflected shot), but they deserved the points, taking the rest of the game into account.

Some of the media and fans are saying that the players are looking tried. But we have a big squad, but the manager is not utilising it to its full potential. Mainly, because he has fallen out with a few players, one of which is probably our most creative mid-fielder?????

One point made after the game was, due to the number of games that we have won to date, we have built up a 7pts gap at the top were the chasing pack are dropping points and taking points of each other.

In saying that, I would rather be 7pts ahead, then 7pts behind the leader. The only thing is that we could be 13pts clear, but since we have drop points lately, it is giving the chasing teams new belief.

However, the run in of the 9 remaining game will not be just as easy. A number of the weaker teams at the lower end of the table and finding their form, to get away for the relegation zone and a taking points of the higher position teams!

We play Galway away on Friday night, who are one of the teams trying to climb out of the drop zone, so it won't be easy. Hopefully the Drogs and regroup and get back to winning ways. Every game now is like a cup final....a must win game.

C'mon the Claret n Blue.

Hello Drogster,

nice that ur sweden trip was nice despite the game.

So just i was going to ask (ok I asked then I edited my message :p) if u have any idea about the story of symbols in Drogheda United's flag? ... But then now I found my answer in previous comments where this subject was discussed....

now I liked the idea to look for the very first chance to order a Drogheda jersey :)

so also, I just checked on flickr photos about Drogheda, cute town...

Hi Folks

Well we played Galway last Friday and it ended up another draw 1:1. We took the lead in the 63min and Galway levelled on 70mins from a free-kick, which the Ref  awarded. (it was never a free). Galway's goal was scored by a former Drog ! It was a better performance then the UCD game, were we fell to only our 3rd defeat.

Derry up next tonight. Derry are really starting to improve and their new manager is getting to grips with the team. Not going to be easy.

We have to start winning games again to keep a good gap between us and the chasing teams. 8pts is the gap at the moment, with 8 games to play including tonights game.

The good news is the the game is being broadcast by the Irish speaking station TG4. Just click on the link below and click the webtv button. Kick-off is 19:45hrs (Irish Time)

http://www.tg4.ie/Bearla/Webt/webt.htm

Hopefully it will be a good game and, even better result....for the Drogs...3pts

I don't know if you saw the SKY sports TV's international football magazine FIFA FUTBOL MUNDIAL. Drogheda were the main feature on it this week. I think that they might have brought bad luck as the cameras were at the UDC match which we lost! Good PR for the club, once we go on and win the league, for the 1st time EVER!!!!!!

Hi All

Yep, the Drogs got back to winning ways against Derry of Friday night.
An absolute thunderbolt for one of our more recent signings score, Guy Bates, or as we call him Master Bates :p. (Just wondering if anyone tried to watch the game with the link that I posted up. Did it work?).

However our lead is now down to 5pts as Shamrock Rovers won their game in hand last night.
5pts clear and 7 games to go. The big game now seems to be on the 12th Oct Rovers v Drogs. It may just decide the destination of the Silverware! We have a weekend off, this weekend.

I see that Trabzonspor drew 0:0 with Ankaragücü at the weekend. You are still very much in the mix, with a game in hand and so far unbeaten this season :alkış:. Keep it up...

Forever Claret & Blue

Hi Folks

Well the Drogs were back in action this weekend, after their weekend off. We travelled to Longford on Friday night, and we continued where we left off, with a 2:1 victory and 3 more points on the board.

Both Drog goals were scored in the 1st half. 1st by Guy Bates, (which makes it 3 goals in 3 games) and 2nd for Paul Keegan, great header from a corner kick.

If one was being picky, we should off had may be 2 of 3 more, but their goalkeeper was in good form and playing well.

In the second half we sat back a bit and soaked up the Longford pressure, not that there was much, all midfield play.

Longford scored in the 90min, much against the run of play, but we hung on for the 3pts.

We have now stretched our lead at the top of the table to 8pts, with 6 games remaining. However, Shamrock Rovers have to play Bray tomorrow night, and we expect them to get 3pts, which will cut the lead back to only 5pts, but who knows. There maybe be a surprise as the Bray game was postponed as a mark of respect for one off their supporters who died while flighting to put out a fire, while he was on duty. So it could the incentive to up their performance?

Here's a link to a short video off some of the travelling Drog fans.....I'm in there somewhere. ;)

http://ie.youtube.com/watch?v=trHwQujbVfA

It wasn't a bad atmosphere, considering that we never play well in Longford. :(

I read that Trabzonspor also continued their good run of form with a 1:0 win v Konyaspor, yesterday. :alkış:.

May the Claret N Blue domination continue :D

Nice work Tunga.

The table makes for nice reading at the moment.....Hopefully it will stay that way ;).

Our nearest competitors Shamrock Rovers were beaten 3:0 by Bray on Tuesday night. I had a gut feeling Bray would get at least a point, but they got all 3 points. :D

We play Sligo Rovers at home tomorrow night. Won't be easy, as they have a good manager and play some lovely attacking football. But if we want to make the League Trophy ours, we have to earn the right and 3pts tomorrow night would do the trick.

The next two weekends are big ones. Cork v Shamrock Rovers and next week Shamrock Rovers V Drogs. If Rovers don't keep up full points and if (WHEN) the Drogs beat Rovers, it's in the bag. Although, we have to play Cork, but I think the games are running out for them. Only 6 left.
Fingers Crossed.
Best of luck for your game v Kasimpasa SK at the weekend. Keep up the unbeaten run and 3 more points on the board. :yattara:

Hi All

Nice picture.....Just for you all to be able to put a name with a face I'm the one in the Blue hat and Gerry, a friend is in the Claret hat.
That picture was taken during the Setanta Cup Final in May, when we won the trophy for a second year in a row after beating Linfield (An Northern Ireland team). I was just after a hip replacement operation and I was standing for the whole game including the penalty shootout using my crutches.

I checked out the link and I'm just wondering what the article reads. Anyone want to translate or summarise the article in English...please.

Anyway. The Drogs won again last night 2:0 against Shamrock Rovers in Tolka park (Dublin) Zayed with the two goals. I forgot that the game was being broadcast on tv by RTE. I heard it looked good on TV. We played some really nice football. We are now 10pts clear at the top of the table.:) We only have 4 games left in the league.

Our game next week is also being televised next Friday when we play Cork City "the Langers" by RTE. I'll post up the link later in the week, if anyone is interested.

Should be an interesting game as due to the results last night, the Drogs only need 1 point to win the league. And as we are playing at home in United Park the trophy will be presented on the night. So hopefully we can win it in style and beet the Langers next week.
The funny thing is that we have beaten the Langers when we won our 1st FAI Cup our 1st Setanta Cup and...fingers crossed...Our 1st League Trophy. That will be a hat-trick. Rather fitting one thinks. :D ;)

We have one hand on the Trophy and hopefully the second hand will land on it next week.

C'mon the Drogs,
C'mon the Claret & Blue

My English isn't very good but I try to translate the 1st part.

Drogheda United that founded 1919 in the little city Drogheda with 32.000 population in the north of the capital Dublin, are league leaders with 8 points distance and they aren't far away from their first title in their history. It isn't a random that the logo of the city and of the club is a crescent and a star. In 1845 there was a virus in Ireland which kill more than 1 million people in 2 years. And 1 million people goes to America or Australia because of it.

This is the 1st part. I hope I haven't make much mistakes and you can understand it. I haven't got time to translate the other parts now but maybe in a few days.

The 2nd part:

Sultan Abdulmecid of the Ottomans sends 10.000 pound to Ireland because the virus but Queen Victoria from England asks the Sultan if he can send only 1.000 pound because she only send 2.000 pound, too. After this the Sultan sends only 1.000 pound and 3 ships full of cereal, too. But the English didn't allow the Ottomans to discharge the cereals. But the Ottomans didn't gave up. They discharge the cereals in the north of Ireland in the port of Drogheda. Since this day the people in Drogheda love the Ottomans and the Turkish. Out of Besiktas and KSK (Karsiyaka) Kasimpasa is another club who is allowed to use the drescent and star. Kasimpasa was excercising football, box and wrestling. Specially in wrestling they were very good. Gazanfer Bilge, Mehmet Oktav and Ahmet Kirecci ("Ahmet from Mersin") were some of the world class wrestlers of Kasimpasa. Because Kasimpasa helped the country to get respectable postions in wrestling all over the world they are allowed to use our flag in their logo.

Out of these 3 clubs also Beylerbeyi, Burdurspor, Bursaspor, Cankiri Belediyespor, Ceyhanspor, Cizrespor, Elazigspor and Eyüpspor are using the crescent and the star in their logos.

Out of these 3 clubs also Beylerbeyi, Burdurspor, Bursaspor, Cankiri Belediyespor, Ceyhanspor, Cizrespor, Elazigspor and Eyüpspor are using the crescent and the star in their logos...

could you help me how can i go there

i live in dublin 14 but i am study Griffith College Dublin (http://www.gcd.ie/)

what kind of way it can possible

dart=bus ??????????????????

Hi Dublin

Your choices are
1. Get a train from Connelly Station or
2. Bus it from the main bus station

Both are good services to Drogheda. Should be a train/bus very hou (even 1/2 hour on a Friday). Make it up good and early as Dublin can be mad on Fridays, and go to Mother Hughes Pub (North Road, Drogheda) Mothers will have a huge flag hanging outside "Home of the Drogs". We generally gather there at about 6pm for a few drinks before the match.

Hope you can make it, it should be good

The compelete text in English:

http://www.zaman.com.tr/webapp-tr/haber.do?haberno=599594

The Drescent and Star of Ireland are going to be Champion

The famous message of Mustafa Denizli "The Irish in us" isn't using only in football today. Drogheda is going to champion soon. And their logo is "The Turkish in them".

In May 2006 was a kind of party (sorry, I don't know the words to translate it exactly :)) and the Irish hang a poster for say thank you. Many people in the area thought that the crescent and the star should be the logo of the town and of the club. Altough there were many problams at our fathers they send some help to Drogheda. And the Football Club of this town has a nice dream today; to be Champion.

In the Ireland Eicorn Premier League, where 12 teams are playing, are the "Drogs" 5 weeks before the end of the season league leaders with 59 points. Runner up are Cork City with 51 points. The team who played sometimes good, sometimes bad in the past but in the last 4 years they are doing well an this year they want to be champions; first time in their history. The best league position of the Drogs who won the Sentanta Cup in 2006 and 2007 was the 2nd place in 1982.

The Trabzonspor of Ireland
The manager of the club who play their matches in the United Park Stadium (5.000 capacity) is Doolin Paul. The most important players are the Finn midfielder Sami Ristila and the forward Zayed Eamon. Another
sympatheticall thing for Turkish Football-Lovers is the Friendship with supporters of Trabzonspor who are using the same colours. In the fan forums of these two teams can you often see messages where the one side wish luck to the other. Specially in bordomavi.net the fans often wish luck to the Drogs. There are also people who are talking about their problems with Ziya Dogan and the chairman. After every match the sides tell the important things to the other. Both sides want to see their teams on one field. When Turkey is waiting for the national match against the Greece on Wednesday, the "drescent and stars" of Ireland who are our friends and brothers since 1847 are looking for the league matche against the 3rd placed on Friday.

12 Clubs are using the Drescent and the Star
When the Drogs are using the drescent and the star on their logos also 12 Turkish clubs are using our flag. The biggest example is Besiktas who are very proud of it. The black-white club integrate the Turkish flag into their logoin 1952 because their match against the Greek national team. Karsiyaka get the flag in 1926 from Atatürk because the citys great performance (Sorry it sounds like a football match but I don't know the rigth words for this sentence) in the Turkish indipendent war. After the as the young man of the city are founding the club again Atatürk want to use the flag on the right top corner of the red-green logo.

Out of these 3 clubs also Beylerbeyi, Burdurspor, Bursaspor, Cankiri Belediyespor, Ceyhanspor, Cizrespor, Elazigspor and Eyüpspor are using the crescent and the star in their logos...

Hi All

Well it was back to reality on Friday, when we traveled to Waterford.
The game was very average as Doolin made 8 chances which gave some of the squad members a run out. Waterford have been improving as they a fighting to stay up in the premier League.
The game finished 1:1. Shane Robinson, who is a Waterford native scored for us and a bad mistake by Gray at the back gifted Waterford the equaliser. It was probably a fair result as both teams has chances to win the game. We looked of the pace, and lacked match sharpness as many of the players have hardy featured this season.
It was a stay over trip and the crack (fun & madness)was great. Great little city and the folks are very friendly.

We play Bray next Friday and we will be presented with the Trophy..........And the celebration start all over again :D

I see that Trabzonspor have sacked Ziya Doğan and Ersun Yanal has taken over as manager. A lot of the fans will be happy with that decision. Is Yanal a good appointment?
I also see that the Trabzonspor did not have the start under new management that you wished for losing late in the game to Kayserispor 1:0. Hopefully that is all the defeats out of the system. I'll enjoy watching Trabzonspor climb the table.

C'mon the Claret & Blue

Hi Drogster,

Congratulations again and again for your title :) From now on results are not important, just enjoy yourself, and it is obvious that you are doing this well. ;)

Well, it seems that we have to keep an eye more carefully on your next game again Bray. You will have your cup there, and believe me that we fell like we are getting Turkish Championship Trophy :)

Ziya Doğan left the club at last (Thanks God :D ) and just after 3 days Board appointed Ersun Yanal as the new coach of Trabzonspor. Ersun Yanal is one of the successful coaches in Turkey. He was also the head coach of Turkey for app. 2 years. He has a very different coaching styles among other coaches in Turkey. And also this mission in Trabzonspor will be the first time for him to manage a "big" team in Turkey. Actually we feel so hopeful about him :)

This Kayserispor match, only thing to say about is that we hope this was the last defeat, we believe, beacuse Mr. Yanal is taking the control from this week :)

Drogster I will come to irishfootienetwork and put the details and photos of Kayserispor match as soon as possible :)

Hope to see you here again ;)

While our final game of the season was against St. Pats and finished 0:0. A real end of season game with nothing to play for, as we had won the league and Pats had second place wrapped up. It was just a matter of not losing the game.

I'm starting to have withdrawal symptoms, with no football on s Friday night!

I see that Trabzonspor have a big challaege this weekend when you take on Galatasaray. Hopefully you can pull one out of the bag and get 3pts, which are badly needed, by looking at the table .

Hi Drogster,

Yes, you are right, we are in a bad situation for several weeks, and I think this will last till the end of first half of the season. After that a new board will manage Trabzonspor and with the opening of the new transfer term, we will have some players who will play (must play) directly in the game.

We are just waiting for the end of first half, then everything will be brighter than before.

And how is things going there in Drogheda? It must be holiday for the team now I guess.

Hi Folks

I see that Trabzonspor went down 1:0 to Konyaspor over the weekend :(, hopefully you can bounce back and get on a good winning run!

Well as posted, the Drogs are back in action. we won our 1st game in the group stages of the Setanta Cup 3:2 against Cliftonville. We were a bit rusty, as you would except, in the 1st half and our midfield could pass the ball. The second half was much better, with a few changes made and some nice football played. We should of been out of sight with the chances we had, but their 1st goal was a great free-kick. All-in-all, a win is a win and takes the pressure off qualifying for the next round, for a while.

Saturday sees the Drogs kick-off their defence of the league title against Shamrock Rovers at 5:30 local time. It is been shown on the national tv, rte.ie. I'll try and get put up the link closer to kick-off. Hopefully we will start of with a win!

Good luck to Drogheda United. A new season with new hopes is beginning. And now this time there will be harder games at league because you will be defencing the title. You are the champion and other teams are aware of that because if they beat Drogs (God forbid - that is an expression in Turkish) they will be on news.

Hi Folks

I haven't been on for a while, very busy these days :(.

Anyway, the Drogs are 5 games into the season and so far its been a mix bag.

We have suffered a few injuries during the close season which include the retirement of one of our new players due to an irregular heart beat and our left-back (best in the league!) Webb also retired. As a result the manager has had to reshuffle the team a bit. As the weeks go on more of the injured players are getting fit and getting close to playing.

The team as a unit hasn't clicked into gear. We have won 2 games against weak teams, Cobh (Promoted last season) and Galway (who sacked their manager), but from a Drogs point of view, it gives the coach a chance to experiment and the wins builds confidence. We are current 6 points of the pace at the moment, so time to pull up our socks and improve. One or two of the players look like they have been partying to much on the close season, but that will be soon rectified!

This weekend we have UCD a well organised, young college side from Dublin. They have a new ground so hopefully we can mark the game with taking 3 points home!

The national tv station RTE have taken the broadcasting rights for the league this season and highlight show is available on their website. The show is MNS (Monday Night Soccer) and you can select the highlight clip of the game. See the link below.

http://www.rte.ie/sport/soccer/ireland_index.html

Clink on the MSN link (Left hand side menu) and select the clip.

OK back to Trabzonspor. I have been keeping an eye on your results and it looks like you have the same problem...No consistency and losing ground on the top teams. I see there is a big gap between 4th & 5th places and you have to play Galatasaray this weekend!

you know we sold our spectacular player to russian team (Rubin kazan) a month ago. And we already havent so many good players in team. This year we dont have any aim after now.. we are just wating end of the season. Our chairman declared that we ll leave 12 players from present team and ll buy new quality and young 12 players for new season. So we are interesting about transfers now. if you can read in our turkish pages at forum you would see that nobody interest in matches against galatsaray tonight Most of fans are disgusting and exciting with new transfer rumors and news..

As you say there is a big gap betweeen 5th and 6th places.. And unfortunatly we dont have any chance deserve to join UEFA Cup next year.. by being 6th...

thanks for your wishes... Trabzonspor always go to pitch to beat and win....

soon everything ll be better

Hi Folks,

Just a quick update, since I have been on last.

Well if you haven't been watching the results the Drogs won 3:1 away to UDC in the league 2 weeks ago.

We bet Dungannon Swifts 4:0 away, who are a poor team from the north, in the Setanta Cup, which basically means we are through to the next round, which re-commences in September. They have split the competition in two to give the Northern Irish teams a better chance this year!

We lost 2:1 at home last week against Bohs. Wasn't a good game and the ref was terrible, for both teams, even the commentators agreed, and Kelly is suppose to be the best we've got ! A draw would have been a fair result, but we didn't deserve to win it. They scored a peno in the last minute of the additional time at the end of the game!

Annywayyyy! The good news is that we travelled down to Cork on Friday night, were we needed at least a draw, considering we were 8pts of the lead!

Unfortunately I was unable to travel due to work  and you really need the whole day off to make down south to Cork. Nevertheless, the Drogs put on one of their best performances in a long, long time. The manager got the tactics spot on and we attacked and put the ball on the deck and took Cork apart :alkış:. We won 2:0 thanks to Baker and O'keeffe, it could and should of been more 4 or possibly 5 according to some paper reports and talking to some of the travelling fans. The last time Cork were beaten by 2 goals in Cork was over 2 years ago by Shels.

So the general opinion is that our season starts here! We are 5pts of the pace but there is a long way to go....
C'mon the Drogs.

Next up we have Finn Harps, who were promoted last season and are struggling so far...so hopefully 3 more points.

I see the Trabzonspor haven't made an improvement on catching a Kayserispor in 5th place, with a 1:0 lost to Galatasaray, a 0:0 draw with Gençlerbirliği and a 1:1 draw against Gaziantepspor :(.

Hopefully your luck will change and you can put together a run of victories...fingers crossed!

C'mon the Claret & Blue

Hi All.

I see that Trabzonspor came from behind to win 2:1 against İstanbul BB and away as well. Well done guys and girls :alkış:. Next up Fenerbahçe next week :(! That will be a tough one!......fingers crossed.

The Drogs also came away with 3pts on Friday night when we played Finn Harps in United Park. Wasn't a great game. Our first piece of real play lead to our one and only goal. Nice football and good finish by our midfeilder Adam Hughes, who we signed from Sligo Rovers. His first goal of the season.

We had a number of good chances in the second half, but good stops by their goalkeeper and poor finishing meant that we had to be satisfied with one, which turned out to be enough at the end of the game.

Next up we have Shels in the League Shield on Monday evening (Public Holiday in Ireland). The Shield is the lesser trophy to play for. Our Manager will probably give a run out to the fringe player of the squad.

Best of luck Folks

Hi Folks

First of all I see that Trabzonspor had a great win at the weekend beating 2:0 Fenerbahçe :alkış:.Well done. You seem to be hitting a bit of good form lately, long may it continue!

Well over this side of Europe its been a bit less impressive. The Drogs lost 1:0 away to Bray at the weekend. UNBELIEVABLE is the only word. Not with regard to the Drogs performance, but in relation to the referee and assistants decisions. 2 minutes into the game a shot that clearly went over the goal line was scooped back out over the line by a defender with his arm/hand and no decision made. We went on to hit both posts and crossbar with efforts and squandered a number of other opportunities. So no goals and no points and we are now 9pts behind the leaders. A bit to much for my liking. The pundits reviewing the highlights couldn't believe the referee.

In fairness we should have had enough to win the game with the quality we have but after that decision going against us, it was going to be one of those nights.

Anyway we play the leaders St, Pats on Friday night, which is now definitely a must game, so fingers crossed.

Hi All

Its been a while since I've been posting, apologise.

On a personal note I have been recovering for a second hip operation in recent weeks and working to dame hard!!!!!

Annnnyway, The Drogs are currently 5th in the league and we really have not clicked into gear this season so far. A combination of some players who were are best players have not preformed to the same level as last season, misfortune with injuries and players retiring and a bit of unrest in the team along with poor tactics decisions in team selection and formations have us sitting were we are.

July is the transfer window over here and we have signed 1 new player Fahrudin Kuduzovic from Sligo Rovers, who we were trying to sign at the start of the season. I believe that we have a couple of players on trial at the moment.

The good news that our new stadium got the green light for construction in recent weeks.

The big news is that the Drogs are playing in their first ever Champions League game tonight. We play FC Levadia Tallinn of Estonia in the 1st round Qualifier.

The link below should be showing the game.

I have already booked by flights and hotel for the second leg and hopefully we can progress to the second round were we will face Dinamo Kiev....big game!...if we get that far!

Next up it is Dynamo Kyiv on Tuesday night. The Drogs are home 1st leg and away on the 5th August.

Its going to be a huge game. DK are playing their 2nd game of their season tomorrow night. Dnipro away. Their season is only kicking off, maybe catch them cold.........2 away matches in 4 days...... Or I'm I clutching at straws!!!!!

It would be great if we could contain them to a 0:0 or even a respectable 0:1 result at home and see what happens over there.

Hi All,

I see that some of our pics have managed to appear on the forum :D, some from Tallinn (I was there) Lovely city, nice weather and great result!

Well, The Drogs went down 1:2 to Kiev in the Champions League 2rd 1st Leg on Tuesday night.

All I can say is that I'm very proud to be Drog...What a performance by every player, absolutely work their socks of and couldn't give any more.

What an atmosphere...best ever!

We play Bray on Friday night in the league and then Travel to Kiev for the game on Weds 6th Aug.

Hopefully I can make the trip, trying to arrange holidays from work. It will be the 1st European Game away that I will miss.....can't have that!

For those of you that may have watched the game I hope you enjoyed it as much as we did.

We have a huge task ahead of us next week in Kiev, but never say die........its football after all....anything can happen...fingers crossed.

yep, never say die, Trabzonspor beat D. Kiev 1-2 in Kiev in 2005 in champions league qualification game and the game could have easily gone 1-3 or 1-4.

So they might have a colour fobbia for our colours in their own pitch ;)

So good luck in Kiev.

Drogheda displayed a good game against hosters Kiev tonight and the match ended in a 2-2 draw. However, Drogheda were eliminated as the Kiev won the first match by 1-2 in Ireland.

Well Folks,

As some of you already know the Superdrogs have exited the Champion League after losing 4:3 on agg to Dynamo Kiev.

The 2nd leg ended in a 2:2 draw. It was a great performance especially the last 10-15mins were we could have scored a winner to put us through to the 3rd Round.

Unfortunately, it wasn't to be.

We can't blame the players as they gave everything. It was amazing to see Drogheda up there with Dyamno Kiev and to hear the champions league theme music play.

It was good while it lasted and we will always have the great memories!

Hopefully it won't be to long when we are back challenging the super power teams of Europe again.

Annnnyway, its back to the bread & butter of the league this weekend. We are away to St. Pats who are battling it out at the top of the table with Bohs.

If we have any chance of claiming a Euro spot, by the league standings, it really is a must win game.

As always Proud to be a Drog and follow the Claret & Blue.

C'mon the Claret & Blue

Hi All

Just want to wish you all the very best of luck in with the new season. I see that you are playing Ankaraspor tomorrow.

Hopefully you have a better season then the Drogs.

We are really having a mix bag.

After the Kiev match we bet St Pat's who are flighting it out at the top of the table, then we were beaten by Bohs in the FA Cup and only drew with Rovers last night 1:1. The European adventure seems to be having a bad effect on our league form!

We will be doing well if we make it into European next year at this rate!

Best of luck again

Just remember the season is a marathon not a sprint, I want to see them up there at the end of the season :D.

Another win at the weekend I see 3:2 against Konyaspor. I see the usually suspects are struggling so far this year....nice to see.....may it long continue...fingers crossed.

As for the Drogs, things are going from bad to worse. We were beaten 1:0 away to UCD, who are in the battle at the bottom and we are letting 3rd place (Euro spot) slip away. The performances of late have been poor and the forwards are having a real problem hitting the net.

We still are in the semi-finals of the Setanta Cup which we have won for the last 2 years, and is the only thing we have to fight for.

Best of luck and keep up the run of victories and hopefully The Drogs can push on for the last few games of the season and maybe nick 3rd place, just to sure of a Euro spot.

Come on the Claret & Blue

Hi All.

Once again it's been a while since I last posted. A lot has happen since then....not good either!

The Drogs are currently on the brink of going out of existence as following the decision by our neighbouring local authority to refuse the construction of our new stadium and training center and as a result the main investors have closed their cheque books after funding the club for the last 4 seasons, which saw clinch our 1st ever League Trophy 2007, the FAI Cup 2005, and back-to-back Setanta Sports Cups.

The world economics haven't helped either, especially when two of the 3 investors are property developers and along a lot of dodgy politics has landed the club in its current predicament.

The Club are currently going through Examinership to assess if it is possible to come to an agreement to settle our current debts (Unpaid wages and taxes to the Revenue approximately €750,000) and to see if it is viable to continue for the 2009 season. It may not seem much, but the league isn't well funded and soccer in Ireland has to compete with Gaelic Football, hurling, rugby along with televised Scottish and English football on Sky and Setanta.

The club have presented a settlement figure to the players and are in negotiate a deal, with monies generated by the general public in the around Drogheda, which stands at about €200,000 with a finger of €91,000 being offered to the players. If they do not accept the settlement the club will have to call it a day. However, the last few days there have been more positive signs of an agreement being made.

If this is the case the club are in court on the 22nd Jan for the examiner to state his case for the club and allow the judge to determine if the club should survive.

So the next couple of week are vital to the survival of the club…….fingers crossed.

As you can understand the end of the season was a non-event with everyone’s efforts concentrating on the planning decision and the following outcome. We were deducted 10pts after entering into examinership, which saw us finish 8th and with a number of players not seeing out the season saw us finish badly. But the main concern was that we would have a team for the 2009 season.

Time will tell

Anyway I have been following Trabzonspor’s progress and its great to see flying the Claret & Blue. The league seems a lot closer and more competitive.
Keep it up….C’mon The Claret & Blue.

Hi Folks,

Just a quick up date on the Drogs.

I am happy to confirm that the players and club have come to a settlement agreement today...another big hurdle jumped.

The next hurdle for the club is the 22nd Jan where the examiner to state his case for the club and allow the judge to determine if the club should survive.

The supporters have done tremendous work in raising funds to date, and as you can imagine serious situations lead to serious measures.

As you can understand, as football supporters, we the fans are doing as much that we can do within a short period of time, so I personally would appreciate it if anyone that would be interested in make a donation, no matter how small, as every little helps.

We don't want to lose our club, so you can understand this regretful request :(

Below are the bank account set up for donations, if your interested.

Supporters can now make donations to Drogheda United FC via paypal or bank transfer.

Just want to thank ABC (registered on the Drogs forum) for starting a new post on this forum, a Turkish translation of my post highlighting the Drogs situation. He posted the links up on the Drogs forum.

I feel bad that I had to go down this avenue a plead for help, but as I said previously, bad situations lead to drastic measures.

Fingers crossed that we can get out of this situation, and that the Drogs can fly the Claret & Blue Flag with pride once again.

Thanks again ABC.

Hi Folks

Just an up date on the Drogs situation.

An agreement has been reached with the clubs creditors i.e. the people/companies that are owned outstanding monies, following a meeting last night.

It was essential for a deal to be made or else we would not even make it to the court on Thursday to hear the judges decision. Another important hurdle dealt with.

A group of fans organised an envelope drop/collection to every house in Drogheda over the weekend and a Table quiz is arranged for tonight including a raffle for Drogs memorabilia.

This will be the last big fundraiser before the Court hearing on Thursday.

Hopefully it will be enough to get our club out of this mess and we can start planning for the new season.......fingers crossed!!!! I'll keep you posted.

Hi All,

As I posted up previously the Drogs Examinership Case was up in front of the Judge on Thursday, which resulted in the case hearing been adjured until next Thursday.

This is yet another positive move towards the the survival of the Club.

From reading reports and talking to people in the club, there are a few issues which the Judge requires further clarification.

The first is, if the Revenue Commissioners who are owed a substantial finger will agree to the offer proposed....which is a fraction of what is owed. This is the vital factor and will decide the faith of the club...

The second is, to obtain a Premier League license for the 2009 Season, which will require upgrading works to United park, i.e. more seating and improving the current facilities, and if a provision for these works is included in the 2009 Budget. If the monies assigned for this work is deemed unrealistic then if we survive we may end up in the 1st division.

The judge also noted the efforts of the Drogheda supporters and people who raised the funds in such a short period of time, and will take this into account while making her decision.

So, the news is positive and we are moving in the right direction, but its not a done deal...just yet.

Fingers crossed.

Also, Best of luck against Fenerbahçe on Sunday...big game and hopefully the right result to the Claret & Blue........It will but a smile on my face :o

C'mon the Claret & Blue.

Hi Folks

I saw over the weekend that you won 2:0 away to Ankaraspo. Great result, keeps you right in the hunt for the title. :alkış:. Next up home to Ankaragücü, who seem to having a bad time, so hopefully anonther 3 pts on the board for you folks.

The good news from Drogheda is that we unveiled our new manager yesterday. Alan Matthews. He is one of the better managers around in our league and is a young ambitious character. Listening to him speak during the press conference he had some very encouraging words about his plans for the club.

He has been a manager for Longford, who operated on a very small tight budget, but he put together a good unit of players and won the FAI Cup Back to Back.

He replaces our pervious manager Paul Doolin, who is now the manager of Cork City, the team that Matthews managed last season, but internal differences between main the investors of the club and the committee board, saw him leave and receive compensation.

He has a good reputation as a manger and considering our current situation it is a really good appointment. He confirmed that he has already spoken with a number of players in up a squad for the coming season, which kicks of the 1st week in March.

The licensing committee currently approving the teams applications for the 2009 license and the fixture should be confirmed in next 10days.

Things are looking brighter for the Drogs.

Best of luck & C'mon the Claret & Blue

Hi Folks,

Well the new League of Ireland Season is quickly approaching and the FAI released the licenses and Fixtures yesterday, and thankfully the Drogs are alive and kicking and were awarded a Premier league license.

The Season kicks of on March 6th and the Drogs are playing away to Derry City. It will be a tough game as Derry will be second favorites to win the title after Bohs (2008 Champions)

The 2009 Season sees our County Louth Rivals Dundalk play in the top division for the first time in 7 seasons, so the rivalry will be reignited.
There is a downloadable list of the fixtures on RTE Website, in the right hand side column. Click on more and the file should open (Adobe Reader required) see the link below.
http://www.rte.ie/sport/soccer/ireland_index.html

Anyway...
I see that Trabzonspor are still flying high with a 2:1 win over Ankaragücü and a 1:1 Draw with Beşiktaş at the weekend.
Great to see you guys at the right end of the table. :D
The results are going your way, but how's the team performing. The new coach seems to be working his magic also...a bit more attacking football.
