Turkey's PM Erdogan Corrupted The Football Industry
Dear officials,
Extent of football corruption in Turkey is now much greater than it was assumed. New phone records released on web, show that Turkish football industry was directly interfered by political actors for avoiding punishment of the match-fixers.
In January, Turkish courts had found that officials of Fenerbahce SK were involved in match-fixing during 2010-11 session. Though Fenerbahçe SK's president was sentenced, conclusively, to 6 years' imprisonment for several sportive corruption activities, its club has never been punished by Turkish Football Federation. However, on 2nd of March, new tapes were released. They were telephone conversation between Turkey's prime minister R.T. Erdogan and his son Bilal Erdogan, evidencing that Fenerbahce SK was protected by Erdogan's influence in Turkish football industry.
There is no doubt that UEFA and FIFA boards must take such new evidence into consideration for determining the corruption cases about Turkish clubs, Fenerbahce in particular.
These records include the following:,
B.E. [Bilal Erdogan]: You protected the team (Fenerbahce SK), but that had a positive effect for this man (Aziz Yıldırım, Fenerbahce SK's president). That was unnecessary. What ever, daddy....
The tapes also include some conversation implying Şenes Erzik, UEFA vice president, had secret talks with prime minister Erdogan about the steps to be taken by UEFA about Fenerbahce.
R.T.E.[Recep Tayyip Erdogan]: "He [Aziz Yıldırım] says Mehmet Ali Aydınlar [Fenerbahçe presidency candidate, who would lose against Aziz Yıldırım] should explain what Aydınlar and Şenes Erzik talked with the prime minister. He [Aziz Yıldırım] says Göksel was also present during that talk, so there were three of them. That is a shameless approach. Mehmet Ali Aydınlar would not tell him what we had talked, for sure. I don't believe Şenes Erzik would disclose it, either. And I don't want to believe that Göksel made any disclosure about it.
B.E.: And who was that other person?
R.T.E.: There was no other person. You are not in our agenda. Fenerbahce issue's coming up in UEFA's agenda, the approach to be adopted by the federation... I guess it is something about these. What was current in the agenda? Fenerbahce would be relegated, it would be banned from European cup matches and even the national team would be affected. You can remember, UEFA would hold a conference in those days. I made a speech in that conference and said the punishment must be for natural persons, not for juridical persons. I said UEFA must correct this regulation. Individuals may commit faults, but the punsihment must not be imposed on clubs having millions of members. Even Platini (UEFA president) said 'We unfortunately have that resolution adopted. Your speak the truth, but I cannot agree with you". I said 'You agree or not. As a prime minister I am also against closure of political parties. The general president of a party or the committer of the particular crime may be punished, but a political party must not be punished. This is what I always defend and this is how I see this matter". I also told Şenes [Erzik] to defend the matter in this viewpoint. The result of these efforts is evident now. Now Fenerbahce is banned for 2 years, but what is the total outcome? Neither the federation nor UEFA has punished Fenerbahce with relegation. Now, Mehmet Ali must mention these facts. Are you taking the notes?
B.E.: No, I mean Mehmet Ali was arguing that the whole process could be saved by reducing 12 points [of Fenerbahce SK] by then. He could succeed if he did so. He may also mention it, but I am not sure.
R.T.E.: No, he cannot mention it. Mehmet Ali Aydınlar was not head of Fenerbahce by that time. A person, who was responsible for football in the whole country [Mehmet Ali Aydınlar was president of Turkish Football Federation by that time] cannot mention those. I mean it would not make sense if he says 'we talked to the prime minister about these'. But making reference to such a private event, "Are you trying to involve the prime minister in these affairs". That would give a right of reply.
B.E.: No father. You shouldn't be involved in any way. What he is trying to do is...
R.T.E.: No for god's sake. You didn't get it. I would not reply. He should say that. Mehmet Ali Aydınlar must mention that. "You allege you hear such talks, you are at such a sitution. Then who is telling these to you?" The people involved in it are definite. Mehmet Ali Aydınlar and I are here. Then tell Şenes Erzik to disclose what ever was talked...
(We may see here Vice President of UEFA; Şenes Erzik is in the corruption game.)
R.T.E.:.....and there is one more thing that must be underlined. This law against match-fixing was brought in front of us by Aziz [Yıldırım] himself.
B.E.: Should he mention that? Did Yıldırım bring the law or the amendment to it?
R.T.E.: Mehmet Ali shoud mention it. Aydınlar should hit Yıldırım by saying "You drafted such a law that you shot yourself in the foot"
B.E.: But father, Mehmet Ali will be offended either way; whether he says he did his best to protect Fenerbahce while he was president [of the federation] or not. You sould also consider it.
R.T.E.: It would be sufficient for him to tell his achiecements in basketball, voleyball and other units he managed. He can say he made Fenerbahce champion in those fields. Call Mustafa and tell these to him.
B.E. OK daddy. Good bye.
