By Paul Saffer in Tirrenia
Two things have stood out about the Turkey team in the UEFA European Under-17 Championship - their talent and their confidence.
Fine form
Both these qualities are possessed in abundance by playmaker Nuri Sahin, who was superb in all three of their Group A games as they narrowly lost 1-0 to Italy and then defeated England 3-2 and Belarus 5-1 to advance to a semi-final against Croatia this afternoon.
High capabilities
The BV Borussia Dortmund midfielder, one of several Turkey squad members based in Germany, is delighted at his nation's progress, but revealed the team always thought they were capable of at least finishing in the top three and qualifying for the FIFA U-17 World Championship later this year.
Progress expected
Nuri, who scored the crucial late winner against England, told uefa.com: "I am very proud and happy, but I think this was expected because we are a great side and our aim was to play in the final and go to Peru. This is the first step."
'A great team'
After the defeat by Italy, many pundits wondered whether the hosts and England would dominate the group. But Turkey, inspired by coach Abdullah Avci - whose bullish rhetoric has so far been borne out - bounced back in style. Nuri said: "We played well in the first game, and our coach said it was a great performance. We did not worry at all because we know we are a great team and knew we could beat England and Belarus - and we have done it."

Turkey confident
Today in Cascina the prolific Croatians await, and Nuri, while respecting the opposition, is optimistic. "The Croatian team is a very technical team," he said. "Their forwards are very good and have scored eleven goals, but in defence they have had some difficulties. I think we can win this match."
Staying relaxed
As befits such a confident side, nerves are not a problem. "We are very relaxed but on the field we are very strong," Nuri, the youngest member of Turkey's squad at last February's UEFA-CAF Meridian Cup on home soil, said. "Our coach has said we have to be relaxed when we are not playing."
Chance to shine
Of course, this competition is not just about results, but also about player development, and Nuri, who does not turn 17 until September, has attracted much attention, including from UEFA technical observer Timo Liekoski who has selected him as one of the players of the finals so far. "It is a very important tournament for me as I can show my ability to scouts and to coaches," Nuri said. "I was very good in the first two matches, and although I began slowly against Belarus I still played well."

Future ambitions
Looking to the future, he added: "My ambition is to play in the first team for Borussia Dortmund, then my great dream is to play in England. It is not important which club, but I would love to play in England with the great stadiums there."
Portuguese idol
When asked to name his footballing inspiration, he immediately selects a young player who has already made the switch to the Premiership. "Cristiano Ronaldo," said Nuri. "In my family everybody says I even look like him. He has great technique, and I have great technique too."</TD></TR></T></TABLE>

They both scored five goals in their decisive group games to reach this stage, but Croatia and Turkey know their UEFA European Under-17 Championship semi-final is likely to be much tighter.
Bouncing back
The two teams meet on Wednesday afternoon in Cascina having each bounced back from Matchday 1 disappointments with two excellent victories. Croatia were leading the Netherlands by two goals in added time before being pegged back to 2-2 in their opener, but went on to top Group B by beating Israel 4-2 and Switzerland 5-2 - having trailed 1-0 at half-time in those matches.
Turkey through
Turkey, meanwhile, lost 1-0 to hosts Italy last Tuesday, but even winning coach Francesco Rocca admitted his side were lucky to prevail, and Abdullah Avci's side have since defeated England 3-2 and Belarus 5-1 to secure second place in Group A and a berth in the last four.
Free-scoring Croatia
Croatia coach Ivan Gudelj can call on two players, Nikola Kalinic and Damir Vidovic, who have scored three goals apiece in the finals. In all his team have managed 31 in their nine games in the 2004/05 tournament, including an 11-0 qualifying win against Andorra - Kalinic striking five times that day - and their group-stage haul of eleven.
'Attack-minded team'
Gudelj said: "We scored eleven goals in three games but we also conceded six. However, I think we have to continue like this because we are an attack-minded side. We only have to improve the way we start matches."

New mental approach
Warming to the latter theme, he added: "We have to improve our mental approach to the game. Next time we have to play well from the first minute and not start only in the second half when it may be too late."
Next goal
As for their opponents, Gudelj said: "I think Turkey are very strong. We are satisfied with our results so far but we are already focused on our next goal - reaching the final. We will give everything we have in order to win the semi-final, hoping to achieve another surprising result."
Leading striker
Although Kalinic's tally of ten goals in the competition including qualifying is the highest individual total, Turkey's Tevfik Köse is the leading scorer in the finals with five, having registered twice against England and claimed a hat-trick on Sunday versus Belarus. Nevertheless, Avci admits these two free-scoring teams could cancel each other out.

'Very strong'
"Before the start of the tournament I said there were eight strong sides, now only the best four are still in," he said. "It means Croatia are very strong. They scored many goals in their first three games, and we could have scored as many again.
Avci's hope
"However, every game is different and I cannot say if there will be many goals when we meet in the semi-final. We just hope to play well and reach the final, we don't care how many goals we will score."
Peru possibility
As well as a place in Saturday's final in Pontedera against Italy or the Netherlands, the winner will qualify for the FIFA U-17 World Championship in Peru later this year. A further berth is available in the third-place play-off.</TD></TR></T></TABLE>

Turkey advanced to the UEFA European Under-17 Championship final as they underlined their reputation as the most talented attacking force in this competition against Croatia.
Talent shines
Özgürcan Özcan struck with a goal in each half, and although substitute Grgur Rado? pulled one back, Murat Duerer's header booked Turkey a place in Saturday's showpiece in Pontedera along with entry into the FIFA U-17 World Championship in September.
Sole change
Turkey coach Abdullah Avci named the same players that started the 5-1 win against Belarus that helped them to second place in Group A. Croatia trainer Ivan Gudelj made only one switch from the Group B-clinching 5-2 victory against Switzerland, Haris Mehmedagic replacing Danijel Rasic in defence, as he had done halfway through Sunday's encounter when his side trailed.
Strong breeze
Aided by a following wind, Turkey, with their close passing game based around midfield pivot Nuri Sahin, settled the quicker. Croatia relied on more direct tactics with longer balls sometimes going astray in the tricky conditions.
Turkey ahead
Caner Erkin forced Croatia goalkeeper Ivan Kelava to save on 17 minutes, and soon Turkey's dominance paid dividends. Caner Erkin laid back for Erkan Ferin to curl in a cross from the right, Croatia having not long before been forced to replace left-back Kre?o Ljubicic with Mateas Delic, and Özcan volleyed in at the far post. Erkin then chipped just over as Turkey continued to impress before the break.
Wind advantage
Deniz Yilmaz shot across the face of goal seconds into the half. But Croatia had recovered from 1-0 half-time deficits to defeat Israel and the Swiss comfortably, and now having the breeze behind them they pushed forward.
Özcan again
However, on the hour they were hit by a sucker punch as Erkin's shot from distance deflected off Davor Spehar into the path of Özcan, who made no mistake. Gudelj introduced Rado?, and within a minute the substitute picked the ball up outside the area and curled a shot beyond Volkan Babacan and into the corner of the net.
Victory secure
Now Croatia were full of life and Kalinic and Milan Badelj went close. But substitute Duruer stole away from his markers to head in a Nuri free-kick eight minutes from time to secure victory, with Turkey also relieved that none of their four players on yellow cards before today were booked. Croatia now face a third-place play off on Saturday in Santa Croce sull'Arno, with the last World Championship berth at stake.</TD></TR></T></T></TABLE>

Second-half strikes
Two goals in five second-half minutes from Deniz Yilmaz and Tevfik Köse settled the encounter as the Netherlands were left to rue a series of misses, which saw them strike the woodwork twice.
Explosive start
The match almost had an explosive start and Diego Biseswar could have broken the deadlock inside the first minute when he muscled through but with Volkan Babacan advancing, he pushed his shot just wide. It proved a taster of things to come as both goalkeepers were kept active in an open first-half, in which the Netherlands twice saw efforts come back off the woodwork.

Deadlock broken
But it was Turkey that opened the scoring six minutes after the restart when Nuri Sahin laid the ball off to Yilmaz who held off the attentions of Martijn Van Der Laan to toe-poke the ball past the advancing Tim Krul.
Turkey seal win
Krul was beaten again five minutes later, when he could only parry Caner Erkin's shot into the path of Tevfik, who doubled Turkey's lead. The Netherlands pressed to find a way into the match but never really looked like doing so as Turkey claim the trophy for the first time to to emulate their nation's success at the 1992 U18 and 1994 U16 championships. </TD></TR></T></T></TABLE>

Sevgili Sanatik haberde cok dise dokunur birsey yok aslinda...

Vesaire...smileys/smiley2.gif
